From April 2016, all dogs in Scotland will be required by law to be microchipped in an effort to encourage responsible dog ownership. Aside from being a legal requirement, microchipping is a wonderful way to ensure that if your pet is ever lost they can be easily reunited with you.
According to The Kennel Club, over 100,000 dogs are lost or stolen every year. Tens of thousands of these dogs are returned because of their microchips, however over 50% of strays cannot be returned to their homes because they have not been chipped. We have even experienced this at our clinic, where many times a dog has been found wandering and, thanks to their microchip, we have been able to return them safely to their homes.
Please bear in mind that it is key to the success of the microchipping system that the details listed under your microchip account are accurate. If you move it is important that you update your address and phone number!
If you are interested in having your pet microchipped, please give us a call on 0141 959 6100 and make an appointment. A nurse or vet can place the chip quickly and safely.
